MERCHANT SHIPPING ACT: DANGEROUS GOODS REGULATIONS AMENDED, IN FORCE

The Department of Transport has gazetted amendments for regulations under the 1951 Merchant Shipping Act dealing with dangerous goods. Immediately effective, they were released in draft form in September 2023 for public comment.

Among other things, the amendments have significant implications for:

  • certificates of fitness, inspection and compliance
  • packaging and containers
  • flammable liquids
  • radioactive materials and nuclear waste
  • training, and
  • offences and penalties.
