MINING INDUSTRY: GBVF MANAGEMENT GUIDANCE NOTE GAZETTED

The Chief Inspector of Mines has published a guidance note on managing gender-based violence, femicide and other safety and security challenges faced by women in the mining industry. Applicable to all mining industry stakeholders including mining communities, the guidance note covers:

  • the role and responsibilities of employers, managers and supervisors in ensuring that the necessary policies, strategies, implementation plans and management systems and structures are in place for dealing with:
    • sexual harassment
    • emotional and physical abuse
    • bullying, and
    • discrimination and exclusion from positions of ‘economic and financial significance’
  • training
  • monitoring, evaluation and compliance, and
  • reporting.
