MOBILE BROADBAND SERVICE REGULATIONS: INPUT SOUGHT ON DRAFT AMENDMENTS

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa has called for public comments on proposed amendments to the 2022 mobile broadband service regulations. This is with the aim of addressing ‘some of the issues’ raised by one service provider in an application lodged in the Gauteng High Court (Pretoria) in September 2022. The deadline for input is 13 February 2024.

According to an explanatory memorandum gazetted with the draft amendments, the High Court application ‘seeks to review and set aside the regulations in their entirety’. The regulations were informed by the findings of an inquiry into ‘the state of competition in the provision of mobile broadband services’, which was initiated in 2018.
