The Department of Trade, Industry & Competition has gazetted and called for input by 12 September 2025 on draft amendments to regulations under the 2005 National Credit Act.
Once finalised and in force, the proposed new regulations will affect:
- the obligations of a credit bureau regarding the maintenance and retention of consumer credit information
- the submission of consumer credit information to a credit bureau, and
- steps taken by a credit provider when assessing a consumer’s discretionary income with the aim of determining that consumer’s ability to pay the credit instalments envisaged.
