NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT ACT: INPUT SOUGHT ON DRAFT APPEALS PROCESS REGULATIONS

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has gazetted draft regulations on the National Environmental Management Act, 1998, appeals process. The deadline for public comments has been set at 24 September 2023.

Once in force, the proposed new regulations will repeal and replace those gazetted in December 2014 under the Act itself, and those gazetted in July 2016 under the National Environmental Management: Integrated Coastal Management Act, 2008.

Their purpose is to prescribe the procedures contemplated in section 43 of the Act relating to the submission, processing, consideration of, and decision on an appeal.
