NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE BILL: NCOP PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS BEGINS

The NCOP Committee on Health & Social Services has called for written submissions by 1 September 2023 on the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill’s ‘B’ version, in anticipation of the next found of public hearings.

Passed by the National Assembly in June 2023, the Bill seeks to establish a NHI fund. To that end, it focuses largely on institutional, governance and administrative matters. According to a memorandum on the Bill’s objects, its overarching objective is to lay the foundation for ‘a reconfiguration of … institutions and organisations involved in the funding, pooling, purchasing and provision of health care services’.
