NATIONAL LAND TRANSPORT ACT: INPUT SOUGHT ON DRAFT 2ND REGULATIONS

The Department of Transport has gazetted draft regulations under the 2009 National Land Transport Act for input by 29 December 2024. According to the notice concerned, once finalised these will be the second set of regulations to have been made under the Act.
Among other things, the proposed new regulations cover:
- contracting for public transport services
- electronic e-hailing services
- converting permits and indefinite period operating licences to documents required under the amended Act, and
- the imposition of a moratorium on applications for non-contracted service operating licences.
The draft regulations appear to have been informed by provisions in the 2023 National Land Transport Amendment Act, which has yet to be commenced.
