NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE: MEDIUM-TERM TARGETS REPORT GAZETTED

Please note: The Government Gazette notice accompanying the report was withdrawn within 24 hours of being issued. No explanation was given. It has now been replaced, although the difference between the two gazetted reports is still not clear.

The Department of Employment & Labour has published the latest report on medium-term targets for the national minimum wage. It was informed by input received in response to a call in December 2022 for written submissions.

The National Minimum Wage Commission’s medium-term target is that ‘the value of the minimum wage does not decline relative to the median wage’. To achieve this, ‘the Commission will increase the value of the minimum wage gradually over time in real terms … relative to the Consumer Price Index’.
