NATIONAL ROADS: INPUT SOUGHT ON SANRAL REST & SERVICE POLICY AMENDMENTS

The South African National Roads Agency has gazetted draft amendments to the 2021 rest and service facility policy for national roads – calling for input by 25 March 2026.

Among other things, the amendments proposed include a section on policy goals not featured in the 2021 version. These are to facilitate and promote:

  • transformation and equity in establishing and operating the facilities
  • road user convenience and fatigue management
  • accessibility and inclusivity
  • environmental responsibility, and
  • compatibility with:
    • local and regional economic activity, and
    • applicable spatial planning and land use management frameworks.
