NATIONAL SMALL ENTERPRISES AMENDMENT BILL: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The NCOP Committee on Trade & Industry, Economic Development, Small Business Development, Tourism, and Employment & Labour has issued a media statement calling for written submissions by 16 February 2024 on the National Small Enterprises Amendment Bill’s ‘B’ version.

Passed by the National Assembly on 6 December 2023, once enacted and operationalised the proposed new piece of legislation will:

  • establish the Office of the Small Enterprise Ombud Service
  • establish a Small Enterprise Development Finance Agency (disestablishing the Small Enterprise Financing Agency, the Co-operative Banks Development Agency and the Small Enterprise Development Agency), and
  • enable the Minister to prohibit certain ‘unfair trading practices’ impacting negatively on small enterprises, as well as regulate related activities.
