NCOP COMMITTEE ON LAND REFORM, ENVIRONMENT, MINERAL RESOURCES & ENERGY CALLS FOR INPUT ON TWO BILLS

In anticipation of parliamentary hearings on two Bills now before the NCOP, the NCOP Committee on Land Reform, Environment, Mineral Resources and Energy has called for written submissions on two Bills:

• a ‘B’ version of the National Veld & Forest Fire Amendment Bill, and
• a ‘B’ version of the Agricultural Products Standards Amendment Bill.

The National Veld & Forest Fire Amendment Bill seeks to:

• improve the administration of the Act
• align it with the prevailing constitutional framework
• ‘ensure that the Act remains responsive and relevant in the field of combating and preventing veld and forest fires’, and
• ‘deal with a number of important technical enhancements’.

Among other things, the Agricultural Products Standards Amendment Bill seeks to:

• improve the effectiveness and application of all related management control systems, and
• introduce product auditing for quality control.
