On behalf of the National Economic Development & Labour Council (NEDLAC), the Department of Employment & Labour has gazetted a draft NEDLAC Bill for input by 28 November 2025. It is envisaged that, once finalised, enacted and operationalised, the proposed new piece of legislation will repeal and replace the 1994 NEDLAC Act.
According to a media statement on the 17 September 2025 Cabinet meeting at which the draft Bill was approved for public consultation, by seeking to provide for the Minister to make admission and membership threshold regulations informed by input during a public participation process the draft NEDLAC Bill seeks to make the system ‘more transparent’.
