NPA AMENDMENT BILL: NCOP COMMITTEE CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS

The NCOP’s Security & Justice Committee has issued a notice calling for written submissions by 26 January 2024 on the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Amendment Bill’s ‘B’ version. This is in anticipation of a final round of hearings when Parliament reconvenes after the festive season recess.

As has been regularly reported, once passed, enacted and operationalised the Bill will make the NPA’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption a permanent, independent entity.

According to the Presidency’s latest report on progress with implementing recommendations emerging from the Zondo Commission of Inquiry, the Bill’s introduction in Parliament during September 2023 was an ‘important milestone’ in the process of strengthening the NPA’s ‘capacity’ to deal with state capture and corruption.
