OLDER PERSONS AMENDMENT BILL: NATIONAL ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS

Please note: A committee notice calling for written submissions on the Bill was eventually posted on Parliament's website on 2 May 2023. The deadline has not changed.

The National Assembly’s Social Development Committee has posted a notice on the Parliamentary Monitoring Group website calling for written submissions by 19 May 2023 on the Older Persons Amendment Bill. This comes nearly a year after it was tabled in Parliament.

Once in force, the proposed new piece of legislation is expected to improve co-ordination and inter-sectoral collaboration on the delivery of services intended to provide vulnerable elderly people with the necessary level of protection. To that end, among other things the Bill provides for the elderly to be placed in temporary safe care without a court order.
