ONE-STOP BORDER POST BILL: FINAL OPPORTUNITY FOR SUBMISSIONS

In anticipation of a final round of parliamentary hearings on the One-Stop Border Post Bill, the NCOP’s Security & Justice Committee has issued a notice calling for written submissions by 7 May 2026 on the Bill’s ‘B’ version.

Tabled in September 2024, once operationalised the proposed new piece of legislation:

  • will enable the establishment of common control zones with neighbouring countries, facilitating co-ordinated, streamlined cross-border operations, and
  • is expected to speed up turnaround times at ports of entry.

As SA Legal Academy has already reported, the National Assembly’s Home Affiars Committee amended the Bill to provide for the transfer of equipment within a common control zone should that be necessary for officials in either country to function efficiently. This would be subject to proper declarations being made and appropriate inventories kept.
