In anticipation of public hearings next year, the National Assembly’s Home Affairs Committee has issued a notice calling for written submissions on the recently tabled One-Stop Border Post Bill. The deadline for input is 31 January 2025.
Once passed, enacted and operationalised, the proposed new piece of legislation will:
- regulate the establishment of one-stop border posts through international agreements
- provide for the establishment of common control zones in the territories of adjoining states
- provide for one-stop border processing arrangements, and
- authorise the application of South African law and the laws of the adjoining state concerned in the applicable one-stop border post facility.
