ONE-STOP BORDER POST BILL: PARLIAMENTARY PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS BEGINS

Please note: Shortly after Parliament reconvened, the committee notice was unceremoniously changed to reflect 28 February 2025 as the new deadline date.

In anticipation of public hearings next year, the National Assembly’s Home Affairs Committee has issued a notice calling for written submissions on the recently tabled One-Stop Border Post Bill. The deadline for input is 31 January 2025.

Once passed, enacted and operationalised, the proposed new piece of legislation will:

  • regulate the establishment of one-stop border posts through international agreements
  • provide for the establishment of common control zones in the territories of adjoining states
  • provide for one-stop border processing arrangements, and
  • authorise the application of South African law and the laws of the adjoining state concerned in the applicable one-stop border post facility.
