PARLIAMENT PASSES CHILDREN'S AMENDMENT BILL

The National Assembly has endorsed the recommendations of its Social Development Committee regarding amendments to the Bill made by the NCOP. These are reflected in a ‘D’ version of the Bill, which is not yet available. However, they can be found in a report compiled by the NCOP Committee on Health & Social Services, beginning on page 93 of the parliamentary papers concerned.

The Bill has been sent to the President for signature and enactment.
Once in force, the amendments are expected to provide a comprehensive legal solution to flaws in South Africa’s foster care system – in keeping with a Gauteng High Court (Pretoria) ruling handed down in November 2017.
