PARLIAMENT PASSES TRADITIONAL COURTS BILL

A 'D' version of the Traditional Courts Bill has been passed by both Houses and sent to the President for signature. Once operationalised, the new legislation is expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of traditional courts; affirm their value in customary law; and lay the foundations of a uniform legislative framework regulating the structure and functioning of traditional courts in dispute resolution, in keeping with constitutional imperatives and values.
