In anticipation of a first round of parliamentary hearings on the Gas Bill, the National Assembly’s Electricity & Energy Committee has issued a notice calling for written submissions by 7 August 2026.
Tabled in March 2026, once passed, enacted and operationalised the Bill seeks is expected to ‘address loopholes, omissions and other challenges experienced in the process of implementing and enforcing the (prevailing) Act’, which it will repeal. This is according to a memorandum on the objects of the proposed new piece of legislation.
In addition, the Bill provides for ‘new technologies’, including liquefied natural, low-carbon and renewable gases’. More details are available in an SA Legal Academy report published when the Bill was tabled.
