PARLIAMENTARY VILLAGES: INPUT SOUGHT ON DRAFT MANAGEMENT AMENDMENT BILL

The 1998 Parliamentary Villages Management Board Act is to be replaced. This is according to a memorandum on the objects of a draft Parliamentary Villages Bill on which input is sought by 14 August 2026.

On 29 June 2026, an ad hoc committee established in October 2025 to review and amend the 1998 statute was advised that ‘the scale of proposed reforms’ had necessitated the preparation of repealing legislation (Parliamentary Monitoring Group). This was noting proposals emerging from the review that included:

  • transferring parliamentary village custodianship to Parliament
  • restructuring the Parliamentary Villages Management Board
  • introducing a revised accommodation allocation framework, and
  • aligning financial governance with the requirements of the:
    • 2007 Government Immovable Asset Management Act, and the
    • 2009 Financial Management of Parliament & Provincial Legislatures Act.
