POST OFFICE AMENDMENT BILL SIGNED INTO LAW

Please note: The Act was gazetted on 20 December 2024 but is not yet in force.

The Presidency has issued a media statement announcing that the South African Post Office SOC Ltd Amendment Bill has now been signed into law. At the time of writing, the new statute had yet to be gazetted. However, since the Bill provides for commencement on a date to be separately determined by the President, it seems unlikely that the Act is now in force.

Expanding the mandate of the South African Post Office and repurposing its infrastructure to provide more diversified services, the new piece of legislation also:

  • seeks to improve the entity’s governance, and
  • enables the appointment of a stamp advisory committee, also setting out its functions.
