PRIVATE SECURITY SERVICES: INPUT SOUGHT ON RAIL TRANSPORT-RELATED DRAFT REGULATORY AMENDMENTS

The Department of Police has called for input by 22 March 2024 on proposed amendments to the private security industry regulations, 2002. They focus on security service providers in the railway sector and, among other things, have implications for:

  • carrying firearms
  • security equipment
  • incident reporting
  • inspections, and
  • offences and penalties.

Over the years, regulations under the Private Security Industry Regulation Act, 2001, have been amended many times. Unfortunately, as far as can be ascertained, there is no fully updated version available.
