RENTAL HOUSING NORMS & STANDARDS GAZETTED

The Department of Human Settlements has published a voluminous, comprehensive document prescribing norms and standards for all rental housing – including hostel development, social housing and private small-scale and backyard rentals. According to the covering Government Gazette notice, ‘social housing institutions and other delivery agents’ are expected to ensure compliance with the new norms and standards, which were ‘extensively consulted’ and are to be incorporated in the national housing and human settlements code.
