LAW COURTS: PLEADINGS-RELATED DOCUMENT/TAPE RECORDING NOTICE RULES TO CHANGE?

The Rules Board for Courts of Law has called for input by 10 October 2025 on draft amendments to the Magistrates’ Courts rules dealing with notices calling for pleadings-related documents and/or tape recordings, along with similar provisions in the uniform rules for courts.

According to a letter from the Board quoted in a notice published on the Department of Justice & Constitutional Development website, the changes envisaged seek to ensure that ‘the time period within which to furnish a plea or any other pleading is not interrupted whilst a response is awaited from a plaintiff to whom a notice in terms of the rules has been delivered’.
