SIGN LANGUAGE BILL UPDATE

The National Assembly’s Justice & Correctional Services Committee has tabled a report in the House on the Constitution 18th Amendment Bill, which seeks to make South African Sign Language the country’s 12th official language. Having held public hearings on the Bill and considered its contents, the committee decided that no changes were necessary. Once passed by the National Assembly, the Bill will be sent to the NCOP for concurrence.
