SIGNAL DISTRIBUTION MARKET INQUIRY: ICASA GAZETTES SUPPLEMENTARY DISCUSSION DOCUMENT

As the next step in a signal distribution services market inquiry begun in September 2021, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa has gazetted a supplementary discussion document for input by 18 March 2024. This follows a call in July 2023 for additional information from specific stakeholders. As SA Legal Academy reported at the time, the move was prompted by some of the comments and evidence received on the contents of the first discussion document, which was released in April 2022.

The outcome of the inquiry will determine whether or not any signal distribution services value chain markets or market segments warrant regulations under the Electronic Communications Act, 2005.
