SMALL ENTERPRISE AMENDMENT BILL: REVISED VERSION AVAILABLE

The National Small Enterprises Amendment Bill’s ‘B’ version is now available, having been passed by the National Assembly on 6 December 2023 and sent to the NCOP for concurrence.

Although the revised Bill now reflects changes made by the National Assembly committee concerned, a report on the process tend to suggest that these were not material.

The Bill seeks to:

  • consolidate three development agencies into a ‘Small Enterprise Development Finance Agency’
  • provide for the establishment of an ‘Office of the Small Enterprise Ombud Service’, and
  • empower the Minister ‘to declare certain practices in relation to small enterprises … prohibited as unfair trading practices’.
