SOCIAL SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES: DRAFT POLICY OUT FOR COMMENT

The Department of Social Development has called for input by 15 December 2023 on a draft policy for mainstreaming and delivering inclusive social services to people with disabilities.

Informed by and aligned to the 2016 White Paper on the rights of people living with disabilities, the draft policy explores options for ‘accelerating access to a comprehensive and responsive social protection system’. This is according to a foreword from Social Development Deputy Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu.

To that end, among other things the policy envisaged draws attention to the importance of promoting and enforcing legislation intended to benefit, empower and enhance the dignity of people with disabilities across the social development sector.
