The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has gazetted a second notice on Minister Barbara Creecy’s intention to exempt solar photovoltaic facility developers from environmental authorisation requirements.

Input is sought by 14 May 2023 on what is envisaged, which would also cover associated activities, infrastructure and the extension of existing facilities. However, the exemption would apply only to facilities in low or medium environmental sensitivity areas. These would be identified using the department’s screening tool.

It is not clear what happened to a similar consultation process initiated in September 2022, also by notice in the Government Gazette.
