STATISTICS AMENDMENT ACT IN FORCE FROM 1 OCTOBER 2025

Having joined the statute books in December 2024, the Statistics Amendment Act is scheduled to come into effect on 1 October 2025. This is according to a presidential proclamation published in the Government Gazette.

As SA Legal Academy has already reported, among other things a memorandum on the objects of the Bill concerned noted provisions:

  • enabling the development and implementation of a ‘national strategy’ and ‘national statistics system’, and
  • facilitating more effective co-ordination and collaboration amongst data producers and data users ‘by creating an enabling environment for the production and consumption of quality statistics’.
