STUDENT DEBT: EFF PROPOSES LEGISLATIVE SOLUTION, CALLS FOR INPUT

The EFF’s Sihle Lonzi has gazetted a notice announcing his intention to table a Student Debt Relief Bill in Parliament. With that in mind, the notice calls for input by 30 March 2025 on the proposals concerned.
Once finalised, the Bill will seek to establish a fund dedicated to paying any institution of higher learning withholding an indebted student’s graduation certificate pending settlement. It is envisaged that assistance will be available only to students meeting as yet unspecified criteria.
