TOURISM: SHORT-TERM RENTAL GOOD PRACTICE CODE OUT FOR COMMENT

The Department of Tourism has gazetted a draft code of good practice for short-term rentals – calling for input by 12 May 2026. Once finalised, the code will provide non-binding guidelines to all tourism-specific short-term rental stakeholders pending amendments to the 2014 Tourism Act.

To that end, the draft code of good practice:

  • outlines the responsibilities of:
  • hosts
  • guests, and
  • online intermediary platforms, and
  • lists associated health and safety requirements.

More generally, the proposals draw attention to the importance of regulatory and bylaw compliance.
