TRADE IN HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS AND PESTICIDES: PRIOR INFORMED CONSENT PROCEDURES FINALISED

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has gazetted regulations domesticating the requirements of the 1998 Rotterdam Convention, which prescribes the prior informed consent procedures to be followed when trading internationally in hazardous chemicals and pesticides.

The regulations were released in draft form during 2020 for public comment, finalised and published the following year – and suspended shortly afterwards pending further attention to outstanding administrative requirements. The revised regulations were released last year for comment.
