WASTE IMPORT AND EXPORT CONTROL

Please note: On 8 December 2023, a notice was gazetted extended the deadine for input to 18 December 2023.
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has called for input by 2 November 2023 on proposed amendments to the waste import and export control regulations.
Once operationalised, the amendments will:
- strengthen measures already in place for controlling hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and
- have implications not only for waste import and export but also for:
- its transit through South Africa
- its reimportation, and
- record-keeping.
