WASTE MANAGEMENT: ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT POLICY PROPOSALS GAZETTED

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has gazetted a draft policy for electrical and electronic equipment waste management for comment by 19 July 2024. This is with the intention of creating ‘new economic opportunities’ that nevertheless offer ‘decent, … safe working conditions’ and protect the environment from the leakages associated with end-of-life products and components.
Underpinned by extended producer responsibility regulatory imperatives and circular economy commitments, the draft policy includes an implementation framework and related institutional arrangements.
