WASTE MANAGEMENT: REGULATIONS AFFECTING TRANSPORT FOR GAIN TO BE AMENDED

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has called for input by 22 May 2025 on proposed amendments to the waste information regulations affecting waste transportation for gain.

Once finalised and in force, the changes envisaged will apply only to private businesses generating income by transporting waste by motorised vehicle or locomotive. Therefore, they will not affect municipal waste transport. Neither will they apply to mine residue transportation.

The amendments focus on registration with the South African Waste Information System and related procedures. A hefty penalty is proposed for non-compliance.
