WASTE MANAGEMENT: RESIDUE STOCKPILES AND DEPOSITS TO BE DE-LISTED

The establishment and reclamation of mining-related residue stockpiles and deposits are to be removed from regulations listing waste management activities with negative environmental implications. This is the gist of proposed amendments to the list, which have been gazetted with a call for input by 10 March 2024.

The notice concerned makes no mention of the fact that the residue stockpiles and deposits to which the amendment envisaged will eventually apply focus on those associated with mining, exploration and production rights under the Mineral & Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002.
