WASTE MANAGEMENT: THREE EXTENDED PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY SCHEMES GAZETTED

Extended producer responsibility schemes for the pesticide, portable battery and lubricant oil sectors have been gazetted and are now in force. They were developed under the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008, and the extended producer responsibility regulations, 2020.

Setting mandatory five-year targets for collection, transportation, storage and treatment/recycling/recovery, each scheme applies to specific products or product classes.

  • scheme for pesticides, co-formulants and related containers
  • scheme for alkaline/zinc carbon, primary single-use lithium, nickel-metal hydride, silver oxide and zinc air/air depolarised batteries
  • scheme for lubricant oils
