WASTE TYRE MANAGEMENT: COMMENTS INVITED ON DRAFT AMENDMENTS TO THE 2017 REGULATIONS

Please note: On 10 October 2023, a second set of draft regulatory amendments was gazetted for public comment.
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has gazetted a notice calling for input by 25 February 2023 on draft amendments to the 2017 waste tyre management regulations.
This follows the publication of a draft waste tyre management plan in December 2022 for public comment. Prepared by the Council for Scientific & Industrial Research, the proposed new plan comes more than five years after the withdrawal of one introduced in 2013. Since then, the department’s waste management bureau has been responsible for the tasks entailed, which are funded from an environmental levy paid by tyre manufacturers and importers.
