The Department of Trade, Industry & Competition has gazetted a notice calling for input by 3 March 2026 on plans to place chrome ore under export control. This allows stakeholders another opportunity to comment on proposals originally released in October 2025.
As SA Legal Academy reported at the time, the move followed a 25 June 2025 Cabinet decision on a range of measures intended to revitalise South Africa’s chrome industry across its value chain by ‘improving long-term viability and competitiveness’.
