The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has called for input by 7 June 2025 on draft signal distribution regulations informed by the outcome of a long market inquiry begun in September 2021.
Gazetted in October 2024, as SA Legal Academy reported at the time, ICASA’s inquiry findings document blamed Sentech’s ‘significant market power’ for the ‘ineffective competition’ negatively impacting terrestrial signal distribution services in the television, FM radio and AM radio markets.
Against that backdrop, among other things the draft regulations propose requiring Sentech compliance with a raft of ‘pro-competitive terms and conditions’.
