MORE WASTE CLASSIFICATION & MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS TO BE AMENDED

Please note: The deadline for input has been extended to 26 June.
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries & the Environment has called for input by 23 April 2023 on draft amendments to the waste classification and management regulations, 2013. They should probably be read with draft amendments to the waste for landfill norms and standards, which were separately gazetted for public comment within the same timeframe.
Once finalised and gazetted, among other things the amendments will replace Chapter 4 of the 2013 regulations in their entirety. They will also align the regulations with the UN’s globally harmonised system of classifying and labelling chemicals (GHS). Onerous penalties are proposed for non-compliance.
