PARLIAMENT: WATER AGENCY & INTERGOVERNMENTAL MONITORING BILLS READY FOR TABLING

The Departments of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) and Water & Sanitation have gazetted notices announcing their intention to table the following Bills in Parliament:

  • an Intergovernmental Monitoring, Support & Interventions Bill (focusing on support for provinces and municipalities ‘in need of assistance’, along with related monitoring processes), and
  • a South African Water Resource Infrastructure Agency SOC Ltd Amendment Bill (attending to 1999 Public Finance Management Act listing requirements).

Once passed, enacted and in force, the South African Water Resource Infrastructure Agency SOC Ltd Amendment Bill will enable the full implementation of the principal statute, most of which came into effect on 7 February 2025 – as SA Legal Academy reported at the time.

The notices serve as explanatory summaries of proposed new legislation not yet available at the time of writing.
